The Poinsett County Detention Center has a maximum capacity of
120 inmates. This includes male and female inmates, we do not house
juveniles. We house inmates for other agencies at a cost of $35.00
per day for males and $55.00 per day for females. Currently, we
have eight Act 309 (State) inmates. The Act 309 inmates perform
duties such as lawn care, building maintenance, custodial tasks,
kitchen chores, laundry, community cleanup and car washes.
The inmates are required to co-pay for their doctor, nurse and
dentist visits. They are also required to pay for their medication,
prescription and over-the-counter. A commissary account is established
for the inmates, we do not allow the inmates to be in possession
of currency at anytime.
Visiting times are established for the inmates. Male visitation
is scheduled for Saturdays between the hours of 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
and female visitation is Sundays between the hours of 1:00 – 4:00
p.m. Religious services are conducted at the detention center, which
include regular services, bible study, departmental chaplain and
baptism services.
