Man Arrested on Multiple Charges for Running Woman off the Road

On 8/01/2018 around 4:45 pm, Poinsett County Dispatch received a 911 call from Audra Hervey, Hervey told dispatch that Walter Crump had chased her down Highway 214 and ran in to her vehicle causing her to wreck. Hervey gave a vehicle description of what Crump was driving.

Sgt. Bobby New set up on Highway 14 East of Dawson Lane while Deputy James Dawson was heading to the accident. Sgt. New spotted the suspect’s vehicle heading west bound on Highway 14 West of Bay Lane. He turned around and made a stop on the suspect’s vehicle. Sgt. New made contact with the suspect, Walter Crump.

During the stop, Sgt. New determined the vehicle Crump was driving had fictitious tags, and no insurance. Crump was also driving on suspended driver’s license. Walter Crump is currently on Probation. Sgt. New conducted a probation search of Crump's vehicle. During the search of Crump's vehicle, he found a purse in the bed of the truck belonging to the victim as well as two shopping bags belonging to the victim. At this time, Deputy Dawson had arrived at the accident scene and was speaking to the Victim about the incident and waiting on a wrecker to retrieve the vehicle from the ditch.

While Deputy Dawson investigated the accident, Sgt. New transported Crump to his residence located on Crump Road and conducted a probation search of his residence. Deputy Jasen Rorie assisted with the search. During the search, 4.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, digital scales, and other drug paraphernalia was located in the house. After the evidence was collected, Crump was transported to the Poinsett County Detention. Prior to being transported, Crump became irate and threatened to kill the victim (Audra Hervey).

Once at the Detention Center the alleged victim, Audra Hervey was interviewed. She told Sgt. New that she was traveling home when she noticed Crump sitting where she would normally turn (Bay Lane). Hervey said she and Crump had been having problems, so to avoid any confrontation she just passed Bay Lane and continued East bound. Hervey said Crump pulled out and began to follow her, Hervey said Crump continued following her and eventually pulled up beside her vehicle telling her to stop, Hervey said she was terrified and continued down the road then Crump ran into her vehicle causing her to lose control and wrecking in the ditch on the North side of Highway 214.

Walter Crump, 49, of Harrisburg is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Family Member, Stalking, Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License, Fictitious Tags, No Insurance, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Terroristic Threatening – 1st Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Purpose to Deliver (Meth), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Crump is currently being held in the Poinsett County Detention Center awaiting a Probable Cause Hearing.
